  • EU-Mercosur
    16.02.2010 Mercosur and EU leaders plan to sign a cooperation and free trade agreement in May 2010. The FTA will facilitate trade but apparently not in agricultural goods that include biofuels as the EU considers excluding the issue from the agreement.


  • EU-Sri Lanka
    15.02.2010 the EU decided to withdraw Sri Lanka from the EU GSP+ system for next 6 months due to breaching three UN human rights conventions relevant for benefits under the scheme. The GSP system will apply from now on.


  • The UK-Renewable energy policy
    28.01.2010 The Renewable Fuels Agency of the UK published results on implementation of the Renewable Transport Obligation. Several fossil fuel suppliers have failed to demonstrate the sustainability of their biofuels. It presents best case studies to avoid the indirect land use change.

  • WTO ministerial summit
    30.11.-02.12.2009 the WTO ministerial summit. Leaders decided to meet in the beginning of 2010 to set up an action plan to agree on unresolved issues such as a special safeguard mechanism, tariff reduction for agricultural products and NAMA.

  • The EU-Ukraine summit
    1.12.2009 the EU-Ukraine summit. Leaders summarized the progress made towards the Association agreement and decided to delay a free-trade agreement because of Ukraine's economic and political instability and slow implementation of reforms
